About This Topic

Research on the benefits of mindfulness continues to grow exponentially across many disciplines in health care, psychology, neuroscience, and education. Dispositional, or trait, mindfulness refers to a natural tendency to pay attention to direct experience in the present moment with an open, accepting, and nonjudgmental attitude. However, mindfulness also can be cultivated and enhanced with many forms of mindfulness meditation and mindfulness training programs. Much research has established the numerous clinical benefits of mindfulness interventions, including stress and anxiety symptom reduction, improved physical and emotional health, and enhanced cognitive functioning. The aim of this Special Issue is to expand the field of mindfulness research further with new applications of mindfulness interventions. In addition, investigations examining the mechanisms of both dispositional mindfulness and mindfulness interventions will explore how mindfulness reduces stress and anxiety and improves health and well-being.
