Recent Progress in Materials Welcomes New Editorial Board Member

We sincerely welcome Dr. Theodore E. Matikas from University of Ioannina, Greece, to join the Editorial Board of Recent Progress in Materials. Dr. Matikas is a renowned scholar who specializes in aging structures in aerospace, nuclear, civil, cultural heritage and biomedical engineering applications; development of smart sensing systems and advanced nondestructive evaluation (NDE) and structural health monitoring (SHM) methodologies (based in ultrasonics, acoustic emission, acoustic microscopy, nonlinear acoustics, IR thermography, electrical methods, diffraction techniques, interferometric techniques) for real-time evaluation of damage engineering materials and structures, including metallic alloys, shape memory alloys, coatings, metal and ceramic matrix composites, smart and multi-functional materials, nanocomposites, phononic meta-materials, nano-structured and hybrid materials and cementitious materials. Dr. Matikas is Professor in the Department of Materials Science & Engineering, University of Ioannina, Greece and Director of the Mechanics, NDE and Smart Sensors (MSS-NDE) Laboratory. He worked as a senior research engineer at US Air Force Research Lab, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton, Ohio leading the entire US Air Force in-house research program in NDE, Professor at the Department of Chemical & Materials Engineering at the University of Dayton, Ohio, USA and Director of the Center for Materials Diagnostics, UDRI/US Department of Defence. He received several awards for his research and served as a Principal Investigator in numerous research projects in the US and Europe. He authored over 250 scientific publications in scientific journals and conference proceedings, several book-chapters and edited books, and six patents. He served as a member of the Euratom Scientific and Technical Committee, the Advisory Board of the Euratom Supply Agency and is senior advisor to the DG of the International Atomic Energy Agency (United Nations).
